Privacy Policy

Just Jaap ("the app", "we") is a mantra and mala chanting counter available at https://justjaap.com. The app is local-first: you can use it fully without an account, and your chanting data stays on your device unless you choose to back it up.

• Chanting data - counter names, colors, cycle lengths, settings and daily counts. Stored in your browser's local storage on your device.
• Account information (optional) - if you create an account: your email address, display name and an optional profile photo you upload.
• Google account information (optional) - if you sign in with Google or connect Google Drive, we receive your basic profile (name, email, profile picture).

We do not use analytics trackers, advertising, or sell any data.

If you choose to connect Google Drive, the app requests these permissions:

• userinfo.email and userinfo.profile - to identify which Google account is connected.
• drive.file - to create, update and read only the backup file the app creates (nitya-mala-backup.json) in your Drive.

The app cannot see, read, modify or delete any other files in your Google Drive. Drive is accessed only when you tap "Back up to Drive" or "Restore from Drive".

Your Drive connection credentials are stored encrypted on our server and are used solely to perform the backup and restore actions you request.

Just Jaap's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

• Google user data is used only to provide the backup and restore features you see in the app.
• We do not transfer or sell Google user data to third parties.
• We do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI or machine-learning models.
• No human reads your Google user data unless you explicitly ask us to for support, or it is required by law.

• To count and display your chanting history.
• To let you sign in and back up or restore your data using Google Drive or backup files. Cloud sync and cloud restore are no longer available.
• To show your display name and photo on your profile.

We do not share your personal data. Data is processed only by the hosting and database infrastructure that runs the app, and by Google when you choose to use Google sign-in or Google Drive.

• Local data stays on your device until you delete counters or clear the browser's storage.
• Tap "Disconnect" on the Account page to remove our stored Google Drive connection. You can also revoke access anytime at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Backup files in your Drive belong to you and can be deleted from Drive at any time.
• Cloud backups saved before cloud sync was removed are retained but are no longer accessible through the app. To request deletion of your account or a previously saved cloud backup, email us at the address below.

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted on this page with a new date.
